Culen is a shrub that is found in the warmer valleys and humid averaging Andes in Peru, Chile, Bolivia. Culen produces aromatic leaves and flowers of yellow cream.

It is believed that the plant is originally from Chile, but has been cultivated over the years as a medicinal plant throughout the Andes. It grows wild along the roadside in the district of Junin Peru.

Culen contains two calls furanocumarine psoralens and angelicina. It was shown that these elements have a photosensitising to UV-induced and are used in many drugs for the photodynamic destruction of tumor cells and other skin disorders as psoriasis and vitiligo. In addition, angelicina has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory properties, reduce fever, and could also be useful for sickle cell anemia.
Another constituent of culen the bakuchiol, has demonstrated liver protective actions, ipocolesterolemiche, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimutagene, anti-cancer. Furthermore, it was also reported antimicorbica a broad spectrum against many types of bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi and viruses.
